The Colts took a massive gamble on bringing in Carson Wentz to solidify the quarterback position and it hasn’t paid off. Unfortunately for GM Chris Ballard and the Indianapolis front office, the draft compensation given up in the Wentz deal will also prevent them from finding his successor in this year’s draft. That doesn’t mean Wentz is going to be the team’s starting quarterback next season. The Colts will scour free agency and the trade market to upgrade the game’s most important position. It just means their draft plan will need to focus on other roster holes. As usual, expect the Colts to go for substance over style whenever possible. That’s why their first pick of the 2022 NFL Draft will help solidify their team in the trenches.
