Think back to a year ago at this time. The Pittsburgh Steelers were a team in transition after Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement left a Hall of Fame-sized void behind center. It was clear during the pre-draft process what position of need loomed largest, with some wondering if the Steelers might attempt to trade up to snag a new signal caller. As it turned out, Kenny Pickett fell right into Pittsburgh’s lap at No. 20. The Pitt product still has plenty of room to grow. But with unflappable confidence and the moxie to lead several late-game drives, Pickett did enough to show he has the potential to be the future of the franchise. Now, as Pittsburgh turns the page to this year’s draft, the Steelers can focus on maximizing the first-round investment they made last season.
