Love it or hate it, the Cowboys have a plan. They are purposely absent from free agency and biding their time for bargains to surface. Aiming most of their attention to the 2024 NFL draft, the Cowboys will set out to fill most of the holes with rookies. The Cowboys have deficiencies they need to address. Last season they were routinely victimized in the middle of the defense. Underperforming lineman exposed undersized linebackers. Combined with poor gap discipline across the board and the Dallas defense began to earn a reputation of being soft in the middle. Offensively a similar identity took hold. The Cowboys had a difficult time imposing their will on opponents in the run game. Tyler Biadasz had inconsistent performances at center and seemed to plateau as a run blocker. Tony Pollard played a solid season but understandably struggled when traffic got thick and the yards got tough between the tackles. The Cowboys could run the ball if defenses were light but, more often than not, it faltered when defenses matched personnel inside.
