After the release of Derek Carr became official, the Las Vegas Raiders currently have more than $46 million in cap space and could reach up to $60 million if they make a few more cost-saving moves this summer. This amount of cap space will allow them to chase some top-tier free agents but will also give them the space to trade down and load up on rookies from the 2023 class. In this mock draft, we project the Raiders trading down four separate times and loading up on picks in 2023 and grabbing a first-round pick in 2024 as well. The logic here is that the Raiders will be able to fill out the depth of the roster with cheap contracts and also prepare for a possible trade-up next year where the quarterback class is more impressive. We continue this series of mock drafts with the belief that the Raiders will be going after a veteran quarterback rather than grabbing a young QB in the first round. This is based on the idea that this year’s class is not quite as impressive as next year’s and the Raiders don’t feel that they have to reach for a quarterback in 2023.
